Greenery Day

Greenery Day is a public holiday in Japan that derives from the celebration of Emperor Hirohito’s birthday. During the Shōwa era (1926-1989) it was celebrated on April 29 each year, while since 2007 it has been celebrated on May 4. As the name suggests, it is a day to commune with nature and show gratitude for its blessings. On the occasion of Japanese Green Day, go for a walk and enjoy the gifts of nature by making a Caesar salad.

On May 4, animal rights activists celebrate International Day of Respect for Chickens. On this day, protests are held around the world against cockfighting, the use of chickens in experimental research and other forms of contributing to the suffering of these animals. The European Union has been committed to cruelty-free animal  farming for years.
